How Essential Oils Changed my Skin Routine.

Hello again! Now the searing heat of summer has gone and the slightly cooler autumn days and evening are with us I thought I would share some of my all natural facial lotions and potions that I make using essential oils.

Cold weather can bring misery with it especially as we age.

It is so easy to develop dry or cracked skin,

Learn to give your skin the love and nourishment craving by using natural skin care with Baobab oil.

DRY SKIN SALVE USING BAOBAB OIL

This simple but powerful dry skin recipe contains a blend of natural ingredients that not only relieve dry cracked skin, but also contains an energising blend of orange and ginger oils to soothe minor aches and pains.

A QUICK NOTE ABOUT OIL: BAOBAB

I chose to include this oil in my natural dry skin salve recipe for several reasons. Not only is this versatile African carrier oil famed for its emollient and moisturising skin care properties, but it’s also absorbed quickly by skin so there is no greasy after feel. Additionally, the presence of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids give baobab oil some beneficial anti-inflammatory properties and help to promote soft healthy skin.

INGREDIENTS:

1 oz.  Baobab
.
5 oz. Shea nut oil
.5 oz.
  Beeswax
drops 5-fold orange essential oil
6 drops fresh ginger essential oil
1-2 drops
vitamin E oiloptional

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP #1:

Weigh out the beeswax, Shea nut oil and Baobab oil.

Combine in a double boiler or microwave in a Pyrex style bowl.

Gently heat untill of the beeswax has melted. ( Don’t use full heat.)

STEP #2:

Remove from heat then, using a dropper add the vitamin E oil along with the orange and ginger essential oils.

Stir well to combine, then pour into a 2 oz. amber or cobalt jar.

Once the salve hardens it’s ready to use.

Simply apply to hands, feet and other areas of dry skin on your body.

You can also apply this salve to chapped lips.

Essential Oil Lip Balm Recipe

There is much experimentation that you can do by mixing and blending until you find your favourite essential oil recipe for lips, I’ll share my favourite with you now so you can have a base from which to get started.

Lavender-Mint Lip Balm

Melt the carrier oils in a pan whilst carefully stirring.

tablespoons Beeswax

tablespoons Coconut Oil

tablespoons Shea Butter

Remove from heat and add:

15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

15 drops Lavender Essential Oil

After stirring in oils, pour into lip balm containers or tins. Let cool.

Purchase your lip balm containers here.

Using the best essential oils for lips allows your body to make the most of the way your lips look, feel, and even taste.

Best Essential Oil for Lip Balm

I choose Peppermint oil s it is one of the best oils for lips because of its cooling and soothing properties.

It promotes healing, helps with fresh breath and helps fight against cold sores.

Peppermint oil also works to increase circulation. It may even make your lips look a little plumper and luscious.!!!!

Frankincense Wrinkle-reducing Face cream

Ingredients

1/4 cup Shea Butter
1/4 cup
Organic coconut Oil
8-10 drops
Frankincense Essential Oil
5-7 drops
Lavender Essential Oil

Using a double boiler, melt shea butter and coconut oil together until liquid. Remove from heat and let cool for about 30 minutes.

Drop in and stir Frankincense and Lavender essential oils.

Start here: Wait for mix to partially solidify (you can even put it in the freezer for up to 20 minutes to speed the process).

Then whip with your hand mixer until you achieve a butter-like consistency.

Store in a 4 oz mason style jar

This should keep for 6-12 months in your bathroom cupboard.

You could also add in Vitamin E oil

DIY After Shave/Oil for Dry Skin

This oil mix is great for dry skin to help repair the skin, or used instead of aftershave.

 8-10 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil
8-10 Drops Bergamot Essential Oil
4 ml Jojoba Oil

You will need: an empty 5ml oil bottle.

Add first 8-10 drops of each Frankincense and Bergamot into an empty 5ml essential oil bottle.

Then fill up with Jojoba oil.

Use daily, after shaving or instead of moisturising lotion.

This mix is great especially in the mornings for the oil’s uplifting properties.

Bergamot has the fresh , sweet, citrus scent that is familiar to many as the flavouring in Earl Grey Tea.

 It is uplifting and relaxing.

Good for building confidence and enhancing your mood.

Tip: you can reuse an empty bottle of Frankincense or Bergamot or other empty essential oils bottle that will mix well with these two oils.

As you will see once you have purchased your basic carrier oils they are used for many natural potions and lotions for skin care and are quick and easy to produce. It makes them economical to produce and of course they are chemical free.

Enjoy experimenting and do let me know your favourite recipes.

Help make this a chemical free world.

Citronella Essential Oil Candles and Beeswax.
Don’t Bug Me

Citronella Essential Oil cnadles made with beeswax with give you an enjoyable outdoors this summer.

With summer comes cookouts, BBQs and BUGS!!!!

What better way to keep them at bay than with some natural bug repellent beeswax candles? Quick and easy to make.

Use any combination of bug repelling essential oils, CITRONELLA, rosemary, lemon, peppermint, orange, lemongrass.

Any kind of jars you like. I use 4 oz. Jars as a preference.

Make a batch all in one go.

Light them and let them slowly burn so your friends, family and guests can enjoy the company instead of with the bugs.

These candles will instantly transform your patio or BBQ area into an enchanting fragrance- filled summer party time.

Here’s to a fun free summer staying naturally bug free.

Items you will need>:

#Wicks. I prefer cotton wicks. Some wicks contain toxins. I use no 2 size.

#100% filtered Beeswax. Paraffin wax gives off harmful toxins and artificial scents.

Beeswax purifies the air.

# Metal wick tabs. Some contain lead.

Chopsticks, tooth picks or pencils to steady the wicks in the jars,

A Pyrex type of dish or tin. DON’T USE YOUR BEST UTENSILS. Beeswax is not easy to remove.

A large pan that will take the bowl or tin inside

Oven parchment paper to place the jars on.

A selection of jars.

#If you have no local source then PayPal or Amazon have what you need.

METHOD

  • Measure the length of wicks. About 1and half times the height of your jar. Make a small knot at one end.

Thread the wick through the wick holder.

Dunk the wick in melted wax.

This helps it adhere to the CENTRE bottom of the jar.

NB. Wax is hot!!!!!!. Watch fingers.

Push wick down onto bottom of jar.

  • Add water to large pan.

Put wax into bowl or can and place in the large pan of water.

Melt wax over a LOW heat. ( 30 mins)

NB. Always have a lid close at hand in case wax becomes over heated.

DON’T heat to boiling point!!!!!!

  • Whilst wax is melting place the jars in the lowest heat in the oven. This helps stop the wax cooling too quickly and then cracking the candle.

Once wax has melted turn off the oven and remove jars carefully.

Place on a tray covered with the parchment paper.

  • Next add the CITRONELLA and other oils to the melted beeswax and pour carefully into a glass measuring jar. (Not your best.) for easy pouring.

THIS WAX IS HOT!

Pour wax carefully into the jars. Leave about and 1inch ( from top of jar.

  • Prop wick up straight between 2 chops sticks ( or similar).

Dunk wick in oil to help adhere to supports.

Put candles back in oven. Switched off. To allow them to cool down slowly and avoid any cracking.

  • Let them sit for 12-24 hours.

  • Trim the wicks to about 1 inch ( about 20mm )above the wax, BELOW top of jar.

4oz jars are easy to light with a match.

These make great gifts!

Was this your first time making candles?

How did they work out?

Weather can be harsh on skin. Elbows and knees and the rest of your body  can get dry and painfully chapped in the winter and worn out during the hot summer months (especially if you spend time in chlorinated wateras I do.). Now Spring is here I know it is time to make my favourite Frankincense whipped body cream ready for the bikini and shorts.

Simple Ingredients

Shea Butter is a fantastic emollient which means it holds in moisture and keeps it in place to keep your skin from drying out when the temperature drops and the wind blows in. Shea butter is the fat extracted from the nut of an African tree. It’s been used in beauty remedies and skin protection recipes for centuries.

Coconut oil comes from the meat of the coconut palm.

It’s perfect for many beauty recipes for skin and hair. It’s a natural moisturiser

Vitamin E is a naturally occurring antioxidant which can help reduce the signs of ageing. It is wonderful for boosting the skin-smoothing properties in your beauty recipes. Use sparingly

Frankincense essential oil is known for giving a smooth appearance to healthy skin. It promotes healthy cell regeneration. I love that Young Living includes this oil in the starter kit. It’s a must in my bathroom cabinet!

Simple to make using an electric mixer or hand held mixer.
